If you’re not familiar with the history of the Custom Firebird, allow us to digress for a moment and fill you in. Back in '68, one of the first 16 Hot Wheels® cars released was the Custom Firebird convertible. Then in 1970, we began to release the Ira Gilford-modified "spoilers" versions, which added the trademark blown engine in place of the hood. One of these was the "Light My Firebird," based on the original Custom Firebird from 1968. The "spoilers" line went away after 1971 but, beginning around 2002, many of the "spoilers" castings were retooled and released as HWC™ or RLC™ editions -- including the "Light My Firebird."
Now given another evolutionary step for 2007, the new Custom Firebird is flying high in its first-ever appearance as a non-convertible edition with an opening hood! This Neo-Classics™ release includes original style five-spoke wheels with Red Line® tampo and a beyond-hot new Spectraflame® deep black finish! This new finish is the best version of a glossy black we’ve seen and is guaranteed to light your fire!
